Tamarindo
Tamarindo is a beautiful beach community in Guanacaste, the heart of Costa Rica's surf culture, and a vibrant community with a well developed commercial infrastructure of hotels, vacation rentals, residential homes and restaurants and bars on the beach.
Located just 1 hour west of the Liberia Airport by car, travel to Tamarindo from Atlanta, Houston, Denver, Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Austin, Miami and Charlotte makes this destination as easy to get to as any 4 to 8 hour drive destination in the United States. Increasingly, Costa Rica is becoming the Central American/Caribbean style experience destination for the new affluent and emerging value seeking retirement expats.
For those traveling to other areas of Costa Rica but wanting to visit the area, both a drive or a flight can get you there pretty easily. Costa Rica Sansa Airlines connects not only the two major airports of Costa Rica but also a series of regional airports in towns like Tamarindo. You can also arrive just west of Villareal on a airstip in the middle of a farm and be just a few minutes from Langosta.

It is not surprising on most that Tamarindo is home to the surf culture. Everyday all day the surf is moderate in some areas, and there you see many people hanging 10. Along this entire stretch of beach are bars, restaurants both upscale and relaxed and there are many other activities.
You can easily enjoy a beach massage, find a horse to ride or just stroll the more than mile long primary stretch of beach here. The water is also suitable for swimming and sunning. In Tamarindo on the beach you do have to keep your feelings about some things close at hand. You will find locals and others engaged in smoking marijuana. If that bothers you or you are bringing the little ones, this is more of a hip vibe beach with a relaxed pura vida attraction.
Homes in Tamarindo and Condos here can range from the rather nicely done more highly valued variety near the beach with great views to something more simple and affordable along the stretch coming into town near and east of the Auto Mercado and on to Villareal. Fun is easy in Tamarindo where you can also live comfortably with all the amenities you need for daily living. The banks both private and public are there along with the better grociers. There is also some nice shopping mixed in with the usual more tourist oriented merchandise. Its fun...its Costa Rica....it is the epicenter of Pura Vida.
